Checking for Accuracy on the postal exam: the one section with right answers
Checking for Accuracy asks you to compare customer information on the screen with the record and decide whether they match or contain an error. It's the one part of the Virtual Entry Assessment with plain right and wrong answers, so speed with care is the skill. A 2024 Inspector General report showed it on Exams 475 (Mail Handler) and 476 (Mail Processing), not on 474.

The three traps
- A changed digit or letter: 4817 vs 4871 looks identical at a glance.
- Two swapped digits: 2193 vs 2139.
- A shifted or missing character, and look-alike characters: B vs 8, C vs G, O vs 0, St vs Ste, N vs W.
How to compare
- Compare in chunks of three or four characters, not whole lines at a glance.
- Check numbers digit by digit; read them as groups ("55-32-00-89").
- Keep a steady pace. Don't rush, and don't re-check the same item five times.
- Answer every item. Timers and guessing rules aren't published, so steady beats fast.
How to practice
Short timed drills work best: twelve pairs in about two minutes, then look at which trap caught you (a changed digit, a swap, or a look-alike) and watch for that one first in the next drill. PostalPath's accuracy drills generate new pairs every time.

Our answer and reasoning
Error. The house number has two swapped digits (2193 vs 2139). Everything else matches. (A PostalPath original.)

Questions people ask
- Is Checking for Accuracy on Exam 474?
- A 2024 Inspector General report didn't show it on Exam 474; it showed it on 475 and 476. The postal service doesn't publish an exam-by-exam map, so be ready for it anyway.
- Is the accuracy section timed?
- Section timers aren't published. Work at a steady pace and answer every item.
- Do wrong answers count against me?
- Not published. Don't leave items blank; a careful answer is always better than a skipped one when the rule is unknown.
