Tell Us Your Story: the work-history section of the postal exam
Tell Us Your Story asks about your work history: how you've done in past jobs and how you've handled work situations. If you don't have much work history, the official guidance is to draw on school, sports or other activities. There's no key to memorize; the preparation is remembering your own record accurately.
PostalPath is an independent company and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the United States Postal Service. Applying for USPS jobs is free at usps.com. Applying and taking the assessment are free.
Ten minutes of preparation
- Attendance: how often you were late or absent, honestly.
- How supervisors, teachers or coaches rated you, and what they praised or criticized.
- Times you were trusted with something (keys, cash, a schedule, a team).
- Times you fell short, and what you did about it.
- Jobs you left and why.
How to answer
- Answer what actually happened. Don't undersell real accomplishments, and don't invent ones.
- Similar questions may appear more than once in different words; honest answers tend to stay consistent on their own.
- The postal service doesn't say how it scores these sections. Trying to guess a "preferred" answer is a worse bet than the truth.
